Municipal Water Department Update July 26, 2021

The Village of Wonder Lake will commence reading newly installed water meters throughout the Village’s water system. The water meters are read electronically which eliminates a technician entering your home to view the meter. The initial reads will take place approximately August 1st, 2021, and the next reading will occur on September 1st, 2021. These readings will calculate the usage for each residence during each month. Meter readings will continue approximately the 1st of each month. The first reading will appear on the September water bills.

Along with the readings, water billing rates will change on the September water bills. The water connection cost will remain at $45.20 and will include up to 7,000 gallons of water usage each month. Water usage above the initial 7,000 gallons will be billed at $6.45 for each additional 1,000 gallons used.

• For example, during the month of August, if a residence has a usage of 9,000 gallons, it will receive a total charge of $58.10 for water usage. The total includes the customer cost/base rate of $45.20 (the initial 7,000 gallons of usage for the month) with a total of $12.90 fee for the 2,000 additional gallons used. Adding the base rate with the fee for additional usage of 2,000 gal. provides a total monthly bill of $58.10 to this residence.

The new billing rates apply only to water usage. If your residence currently receives a sewer charge, this charge will remain the same. The Wonder Lake municipal water utility operates under the regulation of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA). To remain in operation, the water utility must be in compliance with certain public health rules and regulations. The recently completed water meter program is a mandatory IEPA and public health utility upgrade required for the village to maintain its operation license and certifications.
