Updates to MDC Trash & Recycling collection in the Village of Wonder Lake

Village of Wonder Lake Residential Refuse and Recycling Collection

New Program Begins October 1, 2021

This letter is a summary of the Marengo Disposal Company (MDC) residential refuse and recycling collection program for the Village of Wonder Lake. The following is a summary of the changes to the services Marengo Disposal Company will provide for each residential address in the village beginning October 1, 2021.

WEEKLY COLLECTION

One 95 gallon trash cart.
Seniors signed up with the village can request a 35 gallon trash cart instead of the 95 gallon cart.
One 65 gallon recycle cart.
All residents will be allowed to place three yard waste bags or cans out each week at no additional charge. Yard waste stickers can be purchased for additional items. Each can must be clearly marked “Yard Waste.”  
One bulk item per week curbside. Bulk items include furniture and other larger household items that will fit into a standard garbage truck. Bulk items do not include E-waste or White Goods.
MDC observes the following federal holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. If your scheduled collection day for that week is on or after one of these holidays, your collection for that week will be delayed by one day.
All containers will remain the property of MDC.

NON-WEEKLY COLLECTION

In addition to the above services, leaf collection and similar waste by vacuuming will take place twice each fall and once each spring. The term "Leaves and Similar Waste" shall mean all accumulations of leaves, small twigs, and similar materials from deciduous vegetation capable of being raked to the curbside by the resident and collected by a vacuum with collection tube with an opening of not more than six (6) inches.
An exact Leaf Vacuuming schedule shall be agreed upon by the Parties prior to the fall and spring season each calendar year. MDC and the Village shall notify the residents of the Leaf Vacuuming schedule.
If the weather conditions and the volume of Leaves and Similar Waste shed by deciduous trees during the autumn period warrant, MDC may commence service earlier. The owner or occupant of each Residence shall be responsible to place the Leaves and Similar Waste at or along the curb (off the street pavement) where they are accessible to the collection vehicle.

RATE

Effective October I, 2021, the collection rates for services within the Village will be as follows:

NEW CARTS

Trash and recycle cart replacement is expected to begin the second week in October.
If you already have a 95 gallon trash and a 65 gallon recycle cart you will continue to use those carts. You will not receive new carts.
Any resident who does not have a 95 gallon trash cart will have one delivered.
Each resident can request a smaller 35 gallon trash cart to replace the 95 gallon cart. Doing so will not reduce your collection cost.
If you have a 35 gallon cart MDC will replace the 35 gallon cart with a 95 gallon cart on your garbage pickup day.
Seniors 65+ can apply for the senior discount at Wonder Lake Village Hall.
